Terms of use

Mapsfera is free and needs no sign-up. By using it you agree to these terms, which are few and simple: use it sensibly, credit the data sources when you publish something made with it, and don’t treat it as an official source.

Who runs this site

Mapsfera is an independent project, free and with no sign-up. For any question, mistake report or request about the site or these terms, write to us through the contact form: we read every message and reply.

Free to use, as is

The tools, maps, quizzes and worksheets are free and provided as is, with no guarantee that they’ll always be available or error-free. We may change, improve or remove them when needed.

Use them for whatever you need, at home, in class or at work. What’s not allowed is automated, high-volume use (bots, bulk downloads, thousands of requests in a row), because several tools rely on free public services that ask for reasonable use.

The data is for guidance

We work hard to get every figure right and explain where it comes from and how accurate it is on our methodology page. Even so, Mapsfera isn’t an official source and its results are for guidance only:

  • they aren’t suitable for boundary surveys or anything with legal effect, and don’t replace your county records or a licensed surveyor;
  • they aren’t for navigation or emergencies: routes and travel times are estimates and may not reflect closures, construction or traffic rules;
  • elevations, boundaries, populations and areas come from public sources with their own margins of error and dates.

If you find a mistake, let us know: we’ll check it and, if it is one, fix it and log it on our corrections page.

Intellectual property and licenses

Mapsfera’s design, code and text belong to its owner. What you create with the tools (a drawn map, a route, a list of coordinates, a blank map or a worksheet) is yours: print it, share it and publish it.

The data we use has its own licenses, which ask you to credit the source when you publish something made with it. The main ones: OpenStreetMap (ODbL, “© OpenStreetMap contributors”), Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional (CC BY 4.0, “© IGN”), the World Bank (CC BY 4.0), and the U.S. Census Bureau and Natural Earth, which are public domain.

Blank maps and worksheets can be printed, copied and handed out in class freely. If you publish them on a website, blog or learning platform, credit them as “Mapsfera”, plus the data source shown on the sheet.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses from using the results for something they aren’t meant for (see “The data is for guidance”), from outages of the public services we rely on, or from misuse of the site. Nothing here limits any rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.

Privacy

How we handle the little data that passes through here is in our privacy policy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force is always the one on this page, dated at the top.
