How to use it

Set the center by searching for an address or a town, using your location or tapping the map, then choose the radius. Distances are in kilometers, as in Spain, and switch to miles with one tap. The list is sorted by distance and shows each town’s population and the direction it lies in from the center (north, southeast…).

Use “Minimum population” to keep only the bigger places: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 50,000 or 100,000 people. Tap a town to see it on the map, sort the list by population or name, and download it as a CSV for Excel. The link keeps the circle so you can share it.

50 km around Seville

Within 50 km (31.1 miles) of Seville’s city center there are 71 towns and cities, home to 1,749,460 people, and 33 of them have 10,000 or more. The biggest are Sevilla (689,423), Dos Hermanas (142,519), Alcalá de Guadaíra (77,474) and Utrera (52,403). The closest to the center, apart from Seville itself, is Camas (3.6 km).

It’s a crowded circle: only 2 of those places have fewer than 1,000 people, because the Guadalquivir valley is lined with large farming towns rather than scattered villages. The circle also crosses a provincial line, so the list mixes towns from the provinces of Sevilla and Huelva.

What counts as a town

The list goes by municipality, the basic unit of local government in Spain. Each one appears once, at the point of its main town: the seat of the town council, which almost always gives the municipality its name. Outlying villages, hamlets and housing developments that belong to a municipality aren’t listed separately; their residents are counted in its population.

That has two side effects. A large municipality can have homes far from its main town, and a small one can be left out even though part of its land falls inside the circle. To catch every municipality the circle touches, use Municipalities in a radius (Spain) with the “Any part inside” option.

The population figures

Each population is the official figure from the padrón, Spain’s municipal register, as of January 1, 2025. Everyone who lives in Spain has to register in the municipality where they live, and the National Statistics Institute (INE) publishes the totals every year. Second-home owners and tourists don’t count, which is why a beach town can look small here and packed in August.

The CSV includes the INE code of each municipality, a five-digit number whose first two digits are the province. It’s the safest way to match the list with other official data, since many town names repeat across provinces.

What it’s good for

Planning day trips from where you’re staying, checking which towns are within commuting distance before you rent, drawing a sales or delivery territory, choosing where to hold an event so most people can get there, or simply seeing how many people live around a place. The direction column makes it easy to keep only the towns on one side, say everything north of a city.

Where the data comes from

Population: Mapsfera with data from the INE website (www.ine.es), municipal register as of January 1, 2025, updated December 11, 2025. The point of each town is its municipality’s seat in the gazetteer of Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN, CC BY 4.0). Distances are straight lines on the WGS84 ellipsoid.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a driving distance?

No, it’s a straight line from the center of the circle to each town’s center. For the driving distance between two towns, use the distance between Spanish municipalities.

Why is a village I know missing?

Because the list goes by municipality, each at its main town. Villages, hamlets and neighborhoods that belong to a municipality are counted inside it.

How current is the population?

It’s the municipal register as of January 1, 2025, the latest official figure the INE publishes.

Can I use miles?

Yes. The tool starts in kilometers because the circle is in Spain; the km/mi switch changes the radius, the distances and the CSV.

How many towns can I get?

All the ones inside, up to a 500 km radius (or 500 miles, if you switch units). The page shows the 500 closest that match the filter; the CSV has all of them.

What if the circle crosses into Portugal or France?

Only towns in Spain are listed: this tool has no data for Portugal, France or Andorra.

Is there a US version?

Yes: Cities in a radius lists the US cities, towns and census-designated places inside a circle, with Census Bureau population.
