Thailand on the map

Thailand is divided into 76 provinces and Bangkok, 77 in all, covering about 516,000 km² (199,000 sq mi) as measured on the map. The largest is Chiang Mai (22,800 km² (8,810 sq mi)) and the smallest, Samut Songkhram (416 km² (161 sq mi)): Chiang Mai is about 55 times bigger.

The capital is Bangkok. The capitals version marks the capital of each province.

What each province borders

Khon Kaen borders the most provinces: 9 (Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Loei, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, and Phetchabun). Phuket borders no other province: it is an island or archipelago.

Thailand borders Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Malaysia. 12 provinces border Laos: Amnat Charoen, Bueng Kan, Chiang Rai, Loei, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Nong Khai and 4 more. 10 provinces border Myanmar: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chumphon, Kanchanaburi, Mae Hong Son, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong and 2 more. 7 provinces border Cambodia: Buri Ram, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Trat, and Ubon Ratchathani. 4 provinces border Malaysia: Narathiwat, Satun, Songkhla, and Yala.

24 provinces have a coastline and 53 don’t.

Number key

Numbers follow alphabetical order, from 1 (Amnat Charoen) to 77 (Yasothon). Ang Thong, Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Chai Nat, Krabi, Lamphun, Lopburi, Mae Hong Son, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Nayok and 26 more are too small for a number on A4 but keep their number in the table. Areas are measured on the map and approximate; “Borders” counts neighboring provinces.
