The Philippines on the map
The Philippines is divided into 18 regions, covering about 294,000 km² (114,000 sq mi) as measured on the map. The largest is Cagayan Valley (26,600 km² (10,300 sq mi)) and the smallest, Metro Manila (698 km² (269 sq mi)): Cagayan Valley is about 38 times bigger.
The capital is Manila, in Metro Manila; Baguio also serves as a capital. The capitals version marks the national capital.
What each region borders
Northern Mindanao borders the most regions: 5 (Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro). Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Mimaropa, Negros Island Region, and Western Visayas border no other region: they are islands.
The Philippines has no land border with another country.
17 regions have a coastline and 1 don’t: Cordillera Administrative Region.
Number key
Numbers follow alphabetical order, from 1 (Bangsamoro) to 18 (Zamboanga Peninsula). Metro Manila is too small for a number on A4 but keeps its number in the table. Areas are measured on the map and approximate; “Borders” counts neighboring regions.
