Venezuela on the map

Venezuela is divided into 23 states, the Capital District and the Federal Dependencies, 25 in all, covering about 917,000 km² (354,000 sq mi) as measured on the map. The largest is Bolívar (252,000 km² (97,400 sq mi)) and the smallest, Dependencias Federales (308 km² (119 sq mi)): Bolívar is about 819 times bigger.

The capital is Caracas, in Distrito Capital. The capitals version marks the capital of each state.

What each state borders

Guárico borders the most states: 8 (Anzoátegui, Apure, Aragua, Barinas, Bolívar, Carabobo, Cojedes, and Miranda). Dependencias Federales and Nueva Esparta border no other state: they are islands.

Venezuela borders Colombia, Brazil, and Guyana. 4 states border Colombia: Amazonas, Apure, Táchira, and Zulia. 2 states border Brazil: Amazonas and Bolívar. 2 states border Guyana: Bolívar and Delta Amacuro.

15 states have a coastline and 10 don’t: Amazonas, Apure, Barinas, Bolívar, Cojedes, Distrito Capital, Guárico, Lara, Portuguesa, and Táchira.

Number key

Numbers follow alphabetical order, from 1 (Amazonas) to 25 (Zulia). Distrito Capital and La Guaira are too small for a number on A4 but keep their number in the table. Areas are measured on the map and approximate; “Borders” counts neighboring states.
