Portugal on the map

Portugal is divided into 18 districts and 2 autonomous regions, the Azores and Madeira, 20 in all, covering about 91,300 km² (35,300 sq mi) as measured on the map. The largest is Beja (10,200 km² (3,960 sq mi)) and the smallest, Madeira (812 km² (314 sq mi)): Beja is about 13 times bigger.

The capital is Lisbon. The capitals version marks the capital of each district.

Azores and Madeira are shown in insets, out of place and at a different scale. A few remote islands of Madeira are left out so the rest of the map isn’t tiny.

What each district borders

Santarém borders the most districts: 6 (Castelo Branco, Évora, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, and Setúbal). Azores and Madeira border no other district: they are islands.

Portugal borders Spain. 10 districts border Spain: Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Portalegre and 2 more.

13 districts have a coastline and 7 don’t: Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Guarda, Portalegre, Vila Real, and Viseu.
