Sweden on the map

Sweden is divided into 21 counties (län), covering about 443,000 km² (171,000 sq mi) as measured on the map. The largest is Norrbotten (104,000 km² (40,200 sq mi)) and the smallest, Blekinge (3,010 km² (1,160 sq mi)): Norrbotten is about 35 times bigger.

The capital is Stockholm. The capitals version marks the capital of each province.

What each province borders

Örebro borders the most provinces: 6 (Södermanland, Östergötland, Västra Götaland, Värmland, Västmanland, and Dalarna). Gotland borders no other province: it is an island or archipelago.

Sweden borders Norway and Finland. 6 provinces border Norway: Dalarna, Jämtland, Norrbotten, Värmland, Västerbotten, and Västra Götaland. Only Norrbotten borders Finland.

14 provinces have a coastline and 7 don’t: Dalarna, Jämtland, Jönköping, Kronoberg, Örebro, Värmland, and Västmanland.

Number key

Numbers follow alphabetical order, from 1 (Blekinge) to 21 (Västra Götaland). Blekinge is too small for a number on A4 but keeps its number in the table. Areas are measured on the map and approximate; “Borders” counts neighboring provinces.
